Al Ahly Inform CAF of its Vision and Proposals to Develop the African Football

Alahly, Mahmoud El Khatib, Football

Al Ahly sent an official letter today to CAF to inform them of the club’s vision and proposals to develop the African football, which were also mentioned by Mahmoud El Khatib, the club’s president, during Saturday’s press conference.

The club was keen to stress that any development is the CAF's responsibility, but for the sake of African football, we would like to give these proposals:

1- We suggest a return to the two-legged format once again (CAF Champions League final - CAF Confederation Cup final) because the idea of playing the final in one game is not successful.

There is a huge difference between Africa and Europe. Transportation in Africa is much more difficult and more expensive than transportation in Europe, and it takes more time. Also, there is no unified visa in Africa and getting a Visa to enter a country in Africa is one of the major problems that football fans in Africa are facing. Also, there is no unified currency in Africa, unlike in Europe.

2- If you decided to play the final in one match, we suggest that you should modify the current regulations of the final and clarify these regulations with solid and clear rules in order to avoid any problems in the future and to provide equal opportunities for the competing teams. CAF should also announce the stadium that will host the final before the start of the competition.

3-  CAF must take into consideration the rotation of venues that host the CAF Champions League final to give other countries the chance of hosting such a big occasion with CAF providing support to these countries to develop the game in our continent. Also, the countries that hosted the final before shouldn't host the final again for five years.

4-VAR should be implemented in every stage of all competitions in Africa to secure the highest standards of justice.

5- CAF should modify the current regulations to be more solid and clear. We are fully aware it is your responsibility but development requires listening to the views of everyone.

6- CAF should consider doubling the awards given to the participating clubs in the competitions. The current prize for the winner of the CAF Champions League, the biggest prize, is not sufficient to cover the expenses of running the team.
