Mahmoud El Khatib, Al Ahly’s president, praised the performances of Al Ahly’s football team over the last period during the club’s general conference on Monday in Gezira.

During his speech, El Khatib made sure to briefly review our football first team’s accomplishments and thank all those who work in the club’s football sector.

“We were able to win the CAF Champions League title twice in four years. Also, we won the bronze medal in the FIFA Club World Cup. All these are great achievements, but we always aim for the best.”

“I would like to thank everyone involved in these achievements, as it was not an easy thing to accomplish, especially during such tough times.”

“Let me tell you a personal anecdote that I had with coach Mosimane during my first conversation with him after we defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 in the 2019-2020 CAF Champions quarter-finals.”

“We talked about Al Ahly, and I felt how much he loves the club and appreciates the club’s history. When we contacted him to become Al Ahly’s head coach, he was keen to come to the club, which he described as the ‘African Club of the Century’.”

El Khatib also pointed out that Mosimane made history during his time at Sundowns and that he is ranked among the top 50 football managers in the world.

Al Ahly’s president, El Khatib, then moved on to talk about the role of Sayed Abdelhafiz, our director of football, at the club.

“Abdelhafiz is considered to be one the club’s dear sons. He worked for more than 12 years at the club’s different departments. He never refused any role that was offered to him. This man has an unconditional love for the club.”

“Abdelhafiz is one of the best directors of football who served the club over the years. He endured a lot over the last couple of years and was able to succeed. He reminds of the late, great Thabet El Batl who was a role model to many of us and served the club until his last day.”

Finally, El Khatib concluded his speech by telling the club’s football first team that they have to turn the page and focus on what’s next, as they have what it takes to accomplish great things.
