Al Ahly claim an away victory over Medeama SC

Football

With a beautiful goal from Hussien El Shahat in the second half, Al Ahly welcome 3 more points and maintain the top of the CAF Champions League group.

The Red Eagles secured an important win away from home on Friday night over Ghana's Medeama SC at Baba Yara Stadium, bringing back some extraordinary memories as we lifted our first ever Champions League title at the same stadium in 1982.

Following the kickoff whistle, the Red Eagles wanted to control the game with some short passes between our midfielders despite the unfortunate condition of the turf.

A few minutes later, the hosts almost scored through a powerful strike but Mostafa Shobier made an outsanding save to keep his net clean.

For the next minutes, the Eagles tried to break the deadlock but all the attempts from Anthony Modeste, Hussein El Shahat, and Percy Tau were unsuccessful.

On the other hand, the Ghanaians had a couple of chances to score but our defense line stood perfectly to stop them.

Marcel Koller’s men started the second by putting more pressure on the hosts' defense, which resulted to our winning goal.

Amr El Soulia whipped the ball from the hosts and passed it to Modeste, who controlled the ball and returned it to El Shahat who was in a perfect place and with one touch, he put the ball in the back of the net.

We had more chances to double the score when El Shahat snatched the ball and passed it to Emam Ashour but it went away from the goal.

Wessam Abou Ali, who joined us in January, made his debut in the 68th minute, and from his first touch he was keen to open his account for the Red Eagles, but Medeama’s goalkeeper stopped all his efforts.

The remaining minutes went on and our defense did everything to block the Ghanaian' attempts, guiding us to our first ever win in Ghana.
