Al Ahly Achieve a 4-1 Victory over Misr Lel Makkasa

The Red Eagles defeated Misr Lel Makkasa 4-1 on Sunday in a postponed game from Matchday 18 of the Egyptian Premier League.

Our in-form players outplayed their opponents, sending a clear message that they are ready for the CAF Champions League final.

We were behind after Misr Lel Makkasa opened the score from the spot and our players overturned the result with four goals.  

First Half

Al Ahly started the game with a frontline pressure to score the opener, but Makkasa’s defenders managed to block our attempts.

In the 4th minute of the game, Mohamed El Shenawy was needed, as he saved a dangerous shot from the opponent’s player.

Mohamed Sherif was awarded a penalty in the 11th minute after a late challenge from Makkasa’s defender but it was taken away by VAR due to offside.

We had another chance midway of the first half. Akram Tawfik delivered a brilliant cross, but Sherif’s header was blocked by Mahmoud Hamdy, Makkasa’s keeper.

Against the game's flow, Misr Lel Makkasa opened the score from the penalty spot by Ahmed Abdulaziz 10 minutes before half-time, giving Misr Lel Makkasa the lead in the game.

We needed just five minutes to equalize the score thanks to Sherif’s impressive header. Maaloul delivered a sensational cross from the left side, which Sherif met with a beautiful header to make the result 1-1.

In the fourth minute of the additional time, we missed another goal scoring chance. Maaloul sent another cross to Afsha but the ball hit the post and the first half ended in a draw.  

 

Second Half

We had an early chance to open the score in the second half as Sherif passed the ball to Ajayi, but Makkasa’s defender managed to reach the ball before our winger.  

In the 50th minute, Afsha sent a beautiful pass to Sherif, who put the ball into the back of the net but the referee disallowed the goal due to offside after checking VAR.  

In the 58th minute, Pitso Mosimane, our head coach, made his first substitution in the game, as Salah Mohsen joined the game instead of Ajayi.

With 62 minutes on the clock, Sherif finally gave us the lead after meeting Hussein El Shahat’s cross with a perfect header, making the score 2-1.

In the 72nd minute, Mosimane used his bench again as Mhamoud Kahraba and Aliou Dieng replaced El Shahat and Hamdy Fathy.

One minute later, an own goal was scored by Makkas’s defender Mohamed Desouki.  Afsha sent another staggering pass for Sherif, who shot the ball, but it was blocked by Makkasa’s keeper and rebounded to Desouki, who found his net while trying to clear Sherif’s shot,making the score  3-1 for the Red Eagles.

In the 82nd minute, Marwan Mohsen and Mohamed Hany joined the game, replacing Sherif and Akram.

In the dying minutes of the game, Afsha grabbed the ball just inside his own half, then he lobbed an audacious effort up and over the goalkeeper and into the net to complete a precious victory for the Red Eagles.
