Al Ahly Achieve the Domestic Double for 14th Time in History
Al Ahly defeated Talae'a El Gaish on Saturday night to clinch the Egyptian Cup title and secure the domestic double for the 14th time in our club's history.
Our Eagles added the Cup title to the Egyptian League title, which we won this season with seven games to spare.
Our victory over El Gaish extended our record as the team with most domestic doubles in Egypt.
The story started in the 1948-1949 season when we won the inaugural season of the Egyptian league and also won the Egyptian Cup title to secure the first domestic double in our history.
We also did the same achievement in the next two seasons.
We did not win the Cup title in the 1951-1952 season, which forced us to miss our fourth consecutive domestic double, but we bounced back to achieve it in the following season.
We added our fifth double in the 1955-1956 season and after five seasons we managed to win the sixth double in our history.
We waited 20 years to achieve the seventh double in the 1980-1981 season then we added our eighth double in the 1984-1985 season.
Four years later, we managed to add the ninth double in our club's history.
Our only domestic double in the 90s was achieved in the 1995-1996 season, which is our tenth domestic double.
The eleventh and twelfth doubles were achieved in the 2005-2006 season and the 2006-2007 season.
Before Saturday's match, our last domestic double was achieved in the 2016-2017 season.
Our Eagles added the fourteenth double in the club's history on Saturday after defeating Talae’a El Gaish in a thrilling game.
