Al Ahly Respond to EFA’s Justifications Regarding the Participation of Zamalek’s Suspended Youth Players

Alahly, Egyptian Premier League, Football

Al Ahly sent an official letter to the Egyptian Association of Football (EFA) on Thursday regarding EFA’s justifications for the participation of Zamalek’s suspended youth players in the Egyptian Premier League games, besides the postponement of the decisive game between Al Ahly and Zamalek to determine the champions of the « 1999 » Youth League.

The club stressed the following points in its letter to the EFA:

The main purpose of the disciplinary sanction is to deter any unacceptable behavior that violates the sport's principles, and if those sanctions are ignored, then its purpose becomes ineffective.

- The main regulations of the Egyptian Association of Football highly consider the humane and disciplinary values for the youth, and despite the moral transgression which happened, the one who is at fault was honored by playing in the elite competition without abiding by the penalty system.

-The participation of Zamalek’s youth players in the games starting from 20 May violates all the rules and regulations, as the suspension period was considered to start from the dates of the first team's matches. Also, this decision violated the regulations which state that the suspension period should be counted after finishing the 1999 Youth League, and there is still a decisive game to be played.

As for the postponement of the decisive game, which is set to determine the champions of the 1999 youth league, the club would like to indicate the following:

- According to the 2017 main regulations, one of the main tasks of the EFA is to protect the interests of its members and prevent all the attempts and practices that may affect the integrity and safety of matches and competitions, which  Al Ahly is exposed to if the EFA does not schedule the decisive game.

- According to the CAF’s regulations of the team’s list of the 2021-2022 season, the postponement of the aforementioned game will affect the club’s ability to determine its needs on the technical and marketing levels and will also affect the selection process related to the promotion of the youngsters to the first team.

-Postponing the game without a specific date affects Al Ahly financially, as the club is committed to several expenditures.

Finally, the club affirmed its adherence to the invalidity of the EFA’s decision to lift the suspension against Zamalek’s suspended youth players, and the invalidity of their participation in any of the EFA’s competitions, including the Egyptian Premier League.

The club also reaffirmed the necessity to schedule a date for the decisive game between Al Ahly and Zamalek to determine the champion of the “1999” Youth League.
