Al Ahly coach Thorup says team ready for AS FAR showdown

Al Ahly coach Jess Thorup said his side are ready for Sunday’s decisive Group B clash against Morocco’s AS FAR in the CAF Champions League, urging supporters to pack Cairo International Stadium.

“We have played two games at home in the group stage and tomorrow’s game will be the third. I am looking forward to seeing Al Ahly’s great fans at the stadium to support us,” Thorup told a pre-match news conference on Saturday.

The Cairo club, known as the Red Eagles, have been granted full-capacity attendance for the match.

Al Ahly have already secured a place in the quarter-finals and top the group with nine points, one ahead of AS FAR.

“We have already qualified for the quarter-finals, but our target is to win every game,” the 55-year-old Dane said. “We know the match against AS FAR will be difficult, as the Moroccan side need a win.”

Al Ahly are unbeaten in the group stage, with two wins and three draws from five matches, and will look to maintain that record to ensure they finish top of the group.
