Al Ahly achieved a 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals, winning the tie 3-1 on aggregate thanks to a 2-0 win at home in the first leg.

The Red Eagles reached the semi-finals for the 17th time in the history of the competition.

During our previous 16 appearances in the semi-finals, we managed to reach the final on 13 occasions.

Let’s shed light on our previous appearances in the semis:

We faced Enugu Rangers of Nigeria and won 4-1 on aggregate to reach the final for the first time in our history.

In the final, we managed to defeat Ghana’s Asante Kotoko 4-1 on aggregate to secure our first title in the competition.

1983

We faced our opponents of the previous season’s final, Asante Kotoko, but we lost the final 1-0.

1987
After three years of impressive success in the CAF Cup Winners' Cup, having won the title in the three seasons, we returned to the CAF Champions League competition.

We reached the semi-finals and managed to defeat Asante Kotoko to reach the final.

This season saw our team securing the second CAF Champions League title after defeating Al Hilal of Sudan.

After a 13-year drought, we reached the semi-finals to face Tunisia’s Esperance. After a goalless draw in Cairo, a 1-1 draw away from home was enough for us to reach the final.

The Red Eagles defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 4-1 on aggregate to win the third title in the club’s history.

Golden Era
Between 2005 and 2008, we reached the semi-finals in four straight seasons and we progressed to the final in the four seasons, having secured three titles out of four.

2010
The Red Eagles were knocked out of the semi-finals against Esperance due to the away goals rule.

2012, 2013
The Red Eagles reached the semi-finals and progressed to the final to win back-to-back titles.

2017, 2018
We managed to reach the final in 2017 and 2018 but lost the title on both occasions.

2020
Al Ahly defeated Wydad Casablanca in the semi-finals to reach the final. A memorable goal from Mohamed Mgady Afsha was enough for the Red Eagles to defeat arch-rivals Zamalek 2-1 in the final.
