Al Ahly, Sundowns and Sporting CP lead groups on day two of Al Ahly International U-16 Cup
Al Ahly International U-16 Cup entered its second day on Saturday, with Egypt’s Al Ahly, South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Portugal’s Sporting CP topping their respective groups as standings began to take shape.
Al Ahly opened the day with a 3-0 win over Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen before beating Poland’s Escola Varsavia 3-0 in their second match to cement top spot in Group A with 12 points.
In Group B, Sundowns defeated Belgium’s K Beerschot VA 5-0 before edging Hungary’s Meszoly Academy Budapest 1-0 to stay in control of the group. Sundowns are level on 10 points with Right To Dream Academy but lead on goal difference.
Sporting CP took charge of Group C after beating England’s QPR 2-0 and Estonia’s Talent Project 1-0. The Portuguese side top the group with 11 points, two ahead of Egypt’s ZED FC.
The tournament, hosted at Al Ahly’s Nasr City branch, runs from 28 to 30 November, 2025 and features 18 youth teams from leading clubs worldwide.
Organised in cooperation with Al Ahly Football Company and Live Adventure, the event comprises three groups of six teams.
Each team plays five round-robin matches, with the top two in each group and the two best third-placed sides advancing to the quarter-finals.
The knockout stage will determine the semi-finalists, followed by the final and a third-place playoff.
All matches are played on full-size natural grass pitches, with games consisting of two 20-minute halves.
