Al Ahly U-16 tournament offers strong competition, boosts tourism, says Youssef
Al Ahly sporting director Mohamed Youssef, who also heads the organizing committee for the club’s inaugural U-16 International Tournament, welcomed delegations at a reception on Thursday, saying the event marks the start of a wider plan to stage more youth competitions in the coming years.
“I welcome everyone to the opening of the first international U-16 tournament. I call it the first because Al Ahly intends to introduce more championships in the years ahead,” Youssef said.
He thanked Al Ahly Football Company and Live Adventure for what he described as “tremendous efforts” to present the tournament in a manner that reflects the club’s reputation.
Youssef said club president Mahmoud El Khatib, who oversees football operations, strongly backed the launch of the event to strengthen the youth system and give emerging players exposure to tougher competition, a priority he has long championed.
He added that the organizing committee had arranged a tourism programme alongside the matches to showcase major Egyptian landmarks, part of the club’s broader community role and an effort to help promote tourism.
