Handball: Al Ahly beat Zamalek to claim African Men’s Club Champions League title

Al Ahly men’s handball team claimed the African Men’s Club Champions League title after defeating arch-rivals Zamalek in the final on Wednesday evening at the Kilamba Arena in Luanda, Angola, which hosted the tournament.

The Red Eagles delivered a strong performance to secure a narrow 26-25 victory, winning the title for the fourth consecutive time and the ninth time in the club’s history.

The final was fiercely contested, with both sides putting in impressive performances.

Al Ahly trailed 10-9 at halftime before fighting back in the second half, which ended in a 22-22 draw.

The match went into extra time, with the first period ending in a 24-24 draw.

Al Ahly eventually sealed the victory in the closing moments of the second extra-time period, edging Zamalek 26-25.

The continental triumph came just days after Al Ahly secured the bronze medal at the IHF Men’s Club World Championship, known as the Super Globe, which was held in Egypt.

The latest title marks another milestone for the current generation of Al Ahly players.
