The Tenth Is Home

Alahly, CAF Champions League, Football

We are the champions of Africa for the second straight year and for the tenth time in our history.

The Red Eagles secured the prestigious title after defeating South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 on Saturday night at Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca.

Three second-half goals from Mohamed Sherif, Mohamed Magdy Afsha, and Amr El Soulia guided us to the 10th title in our history.

Tonight’s victory extended our record as the most successful club in the competitions with a total of 10 titles, five titles ahead of TP Mazembe and Zamalek.

First Half

The opening minutes of the game gave us a sneak peek at how the game will go. Our players dominated the game and controlled the tempo of the game, focusing on attacks from both sides.

Our opponents did not show any threat on our defense until the 16th minute when Mohamed El Shenawy stopped Samir Nurković’s shot.

Five minutes later, Ayman Ashraf, our defender, received a red card after tackling the South African striker.

Afsha had a clear chance to score when he shot a beautiful volley but his effort went over the bar.

The highlight of the first half came seconds before the half-time whistle when Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Happy Mashiane was sent off after a dangerous tackle against Akram Tawfik. The referee checked VAR and changed his decision from a yellow card to a red card.

The minutes went by and the first half ended in a goalless draw.

Second Half

What happened in the first half continued in the second half but against a 10-man Kaizer Chiefs, which gave our players the chance to keep pushing forward towards the opening goal.

Eight minutes into the second half, Mohamed Sherif showed his presence in the game, opening the score with a sensational finish. Of course, Akram Tawfik delivered a beautiful pass but Sherif’s finish was out of this world.

Sherif was on fire in the next minutes and from a beautiful play, Sherif gave a beautiful pass to Afsha, who fired a shot from the edge of the box into the top corner.

Less than eight minutes later, another beautiful back-heel pass from Sherif put Amr El Soulia, our midfielder, in front of the goal and El Soulia knew what he needs to done and sent a shot to the top corner, giving us a 3-0 lead.

The minutes went by with complete dominance from Al Ahly and Kaizer Chiefs players failed to create clear chances to score.

The referee blew the final whistle, declaring another victory for Al Ahly players, who gave us the chance to create another memorable night in our history.
