Al Ahly’s Danish coach Jess Thorup expressed his delight after winning his first title with the club, just weeks after taking charge of the team.
Thorup led Al Ahly to a 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup final held in Abu Dhabi, sealing the club’s fifth successive and 16th Super Cup crown.
He said winning trophies with Al Ahly had been his main objective before arriving in Egypt and that he was thrilled to claim his first piece of silverware so early in his tenure.
“I knew before taking the job how big this club is and how important it is to win every competition Al Ahly takes part in,” Thorup said.
“That’s why I’m determined to keep working hard to deliver strong performances and compete for every domestic and continental title in the future,” Al Ahly coach concluded.
