Al Ahly Achieve a Precious Victory over Al Merrikh in the CAF Champions League

Al Ahly’s football first team achieved an important 3-2 win against Al Merrikh SC of Sudan on Saturday at Al Ahly WE Al Salam Stadium in a game postponed from Matchday 1 of the CAF Champions League group stage.

The Red Eagles are now back to winning ways in the CAF Champions League group stage, thanks to the efforts of Mohamed Sherif, who scored the first two goals in the game, and Amr El Soulia who helped in scoring our winning goal.

First Half

The Red Eagles entered the game with sharp intensity, as they looked forward to taking the early lead.

It was not until the third minute that we were able to score our first goal in the game.

Percy Tau sent a brilliant long ball to Mohamed Sherif, who was able to convert the first goal-scoring chance he received in the game into the net.

The ten minutes that followed the goal saw great pressure from the Eagles, who tried to double the score; however, the visitors stood their ground.

The Reds kept controlling the tempo of the game and were able to double the score in the 33rd minute of the encounter.

Ahmed Abdelkader pulled up a brilliant skill to move past Al Merrikh’s defender on the left flank and passed the ball to Sherif, who rose up to the occasion once again.

The Eagles were faced with a strong response from Al Merrikh, Tony Edjomariegwe, the attacking midfielder of the Sudanese side, scored their first goal in the game just after 9 minutes from our second goal.

The final minutes of the first half went by with both teams looking to add another goal but failed to find the net, as the referee blew his half-time whistle.

Second Half

Both teams began the second half in the same way where they left off the first half.

More spaces began to appear between Al Merrikh’s midfield and defense, as they kept pushing forward to equalize the score. Our attacking players tried to make use of such gap, but were unlucky to convert the chances into goals.

In the 63rd minute of the game, Mosimane used his bench for the first time bringing Taher Mohamed and Hussein El Shahat into the match instead of Ahmed Abdelkader and Percy Tau.

In the 70th minute of the game, Elsamani Saadeldin, Al Merrikh’s attacking midfielder, scored their second goal in the encounter and equalized the score.

After 7 minutes, the Eagles were able to have the lead once again, thanks to the brilliant efforts of Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Amr El Soulia.

Afsha received the ball on the edge of Al Merrikh’s box and was able to find Amr El Soulia, who sent a cross that was deflected by Al Merrikh’s defense into the net.

Just two minutes after scoring the third goal, Hamdy Fathy entered the pitch instead of Mohamed Sherif.

The final minutes of the game went by with no change in the score. However, Mosimane made on final substitution as Afsha made way for Hossam Hassan, who participated in the last three minutes of the game.
