First Team, Football

Al Ahly succeeded to win the ninth CAF Champions League title after defeating Zamalek 2-1 tonight in the CAF Champions League final at Cairo stadium in a night that will go down in history.

We clinched our ninth title, under the leadership of our South African manager Pisto Mosimane.

The Red Eagles started the game with frontline pressure, and Marwan was close to score the opening goal after two minutes as he received the ball in Zamalek's box but he failed to control it and it was cleared by Zamalek's defense.

Our player Amr El Soulia gave us the lead in the 5th minute with an impressive header after a wonderful cross from Ali Malouul.

The Red Eagles kept the pressure to score the second goal, but Zamalek’s defense blocked all our attempts.

The game was tightened in the midfield and we tried to control the game’s tempo, but Zamalek scored the equalizer by Shikabala in the 31st minute.

Both teams failed to change the result and the first half ended with a 1-1 draw.

In the 55th minute, we missed a great scoring opportunity as El Shahaat missed Malouul’s cross and his shot hit the post.

Al Ahly’s head coach Pitso Mosimane used his bench in the 67th minute as Ajayi was forced to leave the game after suffering an injury.

In the 85th minute, Afsha succeeded to give us the lead with a spectacular strike from the edge of the box to make the score 2-1.

Our players were solid in defense in the remaining minutes and blocked Zamalek players' attempts to equalize.

The referee blew his whistle to declare us the champions of Africa for the ninth time in history.
