Al Ahly coach Ribeiro shifts focus to upcoming matches after Modern Sport draw
Al Ahly coach José Ribeiro said his side created plenty of chances but failed to make them count in their 2-2 draw with Modern Sport in Saturday’s Egyptian Premier League opener.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ribeiro said his staff had expected a tough start to the season and saw possession and opportunities go unrewarded.
He noted an improved second-half display but said conceding a second goal meant the draw would disappoint fans.
“We will review the match and address the mistakes that led to the goals,” he added.
The Spaniard stressed that team selection is a coaching decision and praised his squad’s effort.
“I understand Al Ahly’s culture and constant pursuit of victories. With more games, things will improve. We have 27 players, and everyone will get their chance,” Ribeiro said.
Ribeiro said pre-season had allowed him to assess the squad, including new arrivals, and that the aim had been to start the league with a win.
“We now turn the page and focus on the matches ahead,” Al Ahly coach concluded.
