Al Ahly cruise past Abu Qir Fertilizers in Egyptian League
Al Ahly beat Abu Qir Fertilisers 2-0 in the fifth matchday of the Egyptian Premier League at Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday.
The Red Eagles dominated possession in midfield from the outset and created several scoring chances that could have allowed them to extend their lead.
Ahmed Sayed Zizo opened the scoring in the 16th minute after receiving a well-placed assist from Soufiane Benjdida. He rounded the Abu Qir goalkeeper before firing into an empty net.
Coach Hussein Ammouta started with Emam Ashour and Omar El-Saaiy behind Zizo and Achraf Bencharki as Ahly looked to put pressure on Abu Qir Fertilizers and take an early lead.
The Moroccan coach introduced Hussein El-Shahat and Mounsef Bakrar in the 73rd minute, replacing Bencharki and Ashour, as he looked to add a second goal.
Ammouta made two further changes two minutes before full time, bringing on Taher Mohamed Taher and Mohamed Magdi Afsha for Zizo and Benjdida.
The substitutions paid off in stoppage time as El-Shahat fired a powerful strike from outside the area into the net to double Ahly's lead and secure all three points.
The victory took Ahly's tally to 13 points.
