Al Ahly’s handball team have been drawn in Group B of the IHF Club World Championship, set to take place in Cairo from 26 September to 2 October.
As hosts, Al Ahly were granted the right to select their group and opted to face defending champions Telekom Veszprém of Hungary and Sydney University of Australia.
Under the tournament format, the three group winners and the best-performing runner-up across all groups will advance to the semi-finals.
Al Ahly made history last year by becoming the first non-European team to defeat Barcelona, claiming a third-place finish with a win in the playoff.
The Red Eagles also faced Sydney University in the group stage, recording a dominant 49–15 victory.
