Al Ahly edge Sporting CP to reach International U-16 Cup final against Ruch Lviv

Al Ahly’s U-16 football team booked a place in the International U-16 Cup final with a 1-0 win over Portugal’s Sporting CP in Sunday’s semifinal.

The hosts will meet Ukraine’s Ruch Lviv later on Sunday at Al Ahly’s Nasr City branch. Al Ahly dominated the semifinal and created several chances before sealing victory with a penalty five minutes from full time.

Ruch Lviv advanced with a 3-1 win over South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the day’s earlier semifinal.

The three-day tournament, staged at Al Ahly’s Nasr City facilities from 28 to 30 November, featured 18 youth teams from leading clubs worldwide.

It is organised by Al Ahly Football Company in cooperation with Live Adventure.

The competition was split into three groups of six teams. Each side played five round-robin matches, with the top two in each group and the two best third-placed teams progressing to the quarter-finals.

The knockout stage determined the semifinalists, followed by the final and third-place playoff.

All matches are played on full-size natural-grass pitches, with each game consisting of two 20-minute halves.
