Al Ahly face Ghazl El Mahalla in Egyptian League Cup

Al Ahly are set to face Ghazl El Mahalla in the third round of the Egyptian League Cup group stage at El Mahalla’s stadium on Tuesday.

The tournament was introduced in the 2021-22 season and is played during international breaks, with teams from the Egyptian Premier League taking part.

Modern Sport FC won the inaugural edition, while Ceramica Cleopatra have claimed the title in each of the last three editions.

The current edition features 21 teams divided into three groups, with the top two teams from each group and the two best third-placed sides advancing to the quarter-finals.

Al Ahly are in Group A alongside Ceramica Cleopatra, Ghazl El Mahalla, Arab Contractors, Pharco FC and Talae El Geish.

The Red Eagles opened their League Cup campaign with a 1-0 defeat by Enppi before beating Ceramica Cleopatra last week.

The Egyptian Premier League is currently on hold as the national team compete in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco from 21 Decemeber to 18 January, 2026.
