Al Ahly defeated by Barcelona in final warm-up for new season
Al Ahly’s first football team concluded their preparatory camp in Spain with a 2-1 loss to FC Barcelona in the 2026 Joan Gamper Trophy at Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday.
The friendly was intense, with both teams putting in a great deal of effort and leaving it all on the field.
It was also a valuable opportunity to give most of Al Ahly’s players a run-out against prestigious opposition before the start of the Egyptian League campaign.
Barcelona took the lead in the first half through Hamza Abdelkarim. Raphinha then doubled the advantage from the penalty spot before Ahmed Sayed Zizo pulled one back for Al Ahly in the second half.
Head coach Hussein Ammouta used the friendly to give a large number of players an opportunity to feature as part of his preparations for the upcoming campaign.
Al Ahly held their pre-season training camp in Spain from 6 to 20 August.
They will then return to Egypt to begin the new season with a league game against Al Sharqiya Enppi at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, 23 August.
