Basketball: Gavriel eyeing trophies as Al Ahly's new coach
Al Ahly men’s basketball coach, Linos Gavriel, has expressed his excitement at leading the Red Eagles, with a clear focus on securing silverware for the team.
The Cypriot-Greek coach, who took the helm in July, made his ambitions clear in a recent statement.
"My goal is to win every available trophy with this team, while maintaining the winning momentum established by Al Ahly in recent seasons," said Gavriel.
“I’m honored to be here. It’s a privilege to contribute to the club’s pursuit of titles. I know Al Ahly well from previous encounters in various tournaments,” he added.
The 50-year-old, who brings a wealth of experience from European, Asian, and African leagues, also expressed confidence in the squad's potential.
“My aim is to win all trophies in Egypt, and we are especially looking forward to the PAL. With a team that boasts top-tier players, we have the foundation to build on the successes achieved under the previous coach, Augustí,” Gavriel stated.
The veteran coach also acknowledged the importance of fan support, calling it crucial for the team's success.
"The team needs your support, not just in victory but throughout the journey. Together, through hard work and dedication, we will have plenty to celebrate when we win trophies," Gavriel concluded.
