Handball: Al Ahly beat Zamalek to win IHF Men’s Club World Championship bronze
Al Ahly’s senior handball team secured a deserved victory over Zamalek to claim the bronze medal at the 2026 IHF Men’s Club World Championship, the “Super Globe,” in a match played at the New Administrative Capital Sports Hall on Thursday evening.
The Red Eagles delivered a strong all-around performance, dominating for long periods before sealing a 30-25 victory.
The bronze medal is Al Ahly’s second in the competition, following their third-place finish in the 2024 edition. They previously won silver in 2007.
The match began at a high tempo, with Al Ahly head coach David Davis relying on a well-organized defense and quick attacks.
Mohsen Ramadan, Omar Khaled “Castillo,” Omar Sami, Nabil Sherif, Abdelrahman Nabil and Seif Hany “Fox” all found the net as Al Ahly took a 19-13 lead into halftime, despite being reduced to six players on several occasions following refereeing decisions.
Al Ahly maintained their advantage after the break, with Davis rotating his squad to keep the players fresh.
The team continued to threaten with powerful long-range shots while varying its attacking patterns and tactical approach.
Goalkeepers Abdelrahman Hameed and Mohamed Ibrahim made important saves, while Yasser Seif and Omar Dahroug also contributed.
The closing minutes brought renewed excitement as Zamalek managed to reduce the deficit.
Al Ahly, however, held firm to secure a 30–25 victory and claim the bronze medal at the IHF Men’s Club World Championship.
