Handball: Al Ahly finish fourth at Club World Championship
Al Ahly’s men’s handball team concluded their IHF Club World Championship campaign in fourth place after a 32-23 defeat to Germany’s SC Magdeburg at the New Administrative Capital Arena in Cairo on Thursday.
Last year, Al Ahly made history by beating Barcelona in the third-place playoff, becoming the first non-European team to secure that position. However, they were unable to replicate that success in the 18th edition of the tournament.
SC Magdeburg took control early, leading 19-11 at halftime and maintaining an eight-goal margin to clinch the win.
Al Ahly started the tournament strongly with a dominant 41-14 group stage victory over Australia’s Sydney Uni but fell short against defending champions Veszprém HC and Barcelona in the semifinals.
