Sherif’s Brace Secures Victory in Cairo Derby

Al Ahly achieved a 2-1 victory over Zamalek SC on Sunday night in a game postponed from the fourth fixture of the Egyptian Premier League.

The Red Eagles repeated the result of our last encounter in November 2020, when we won the CAF Champions League title.

Mohamed Sherif was on fire in today’s encounter, having scored two goals in the first half; while Zamalek’s only goal was scored by Mahmoud Shikabala.

Ali Lotfy, our goalkeeper, put on a heroic performance, saving a penalty from Zamalek’s Mahmoud Alaa in the second half and making several important saves during the match.

Despite missing many key players, the Red Eagles showed a strong performance and sealed an important three points in our journey to defend the Egyptian League title.

We are now second in the league table with 30 points after 12 games, three points behind Zamalek, who have 33 points from 15 games.

Strong Start

We had a strong start to the game, as Mohamed Sherif received a fantastic cross inside the box in the opening minute of the game but his shot missed the target.

Our waves of attacks continued and Hussein El Shahat failed to control a perfect long pass from Amr El Soulia inside the opponent’s box to miss another clear chance to score.

Opening Goal

Sherif opened the score for the Red Eagles in the 21st minute of the game when he received a great pass from Ayman Ashraf to shoot the ball in the bottom corner.

We started moving the ball around and kept the possession, with our players focusing on attacks from the flanks.

Equalizer

Shikabala scored the equalizer through a shot from the edge of the box in the 31st minute to level the score.

Quick Response

We needed just four minutes to take the lead again as Sherif smashed a stunning strike into the top corner from a long-range to make the score 2-1.

Second Half

Our defenders stood their ground against Zamalek’s attempts to equalize the score.

The referee awarded our opponent a penalty but they failed to convert it as Lotfy made a heroic save to keep us in the lead.

Pitso Mosimane, Al Ahly’s head coach, made several substitutions to re-energize the team.

Our players kept their dominance on the pitch and had several chances to add the third goal.

Lotfy once again made a late heroic save to keep the score 2-1 and secure an important win for the Red Eagles.
