Al Ahly football director Wael Gomaa said he was delighted to return to the club and backed new head coach Hussein Ammouta to fulfill the ambitions of the record African champions.
Speaking at Ammouta's unveiling on Tuesday, Gomaa described Al Ahly as the club where he experienced the happiest moments of his career and said he was grateful for the opportunity to return.
"Al Ahly has given me so much, and no words can repay what the club has done for me," Gomaa said. "I'm determined to give everything I have to help the club achieve more success."
He thanked the club's board, led by president Mahmoud El Khatib, for its confidence in him and pledged to meet the expectations of the management and supporters.
Gomaa described the Moroccan as one of Africa's leading coaches, citing his record of success with previous clubs and expressing confidence that he can guide Al Ahly to further silverware.
"I know Ammouta personally and believe he is not only a great person but also an outstanding coach worthy of Al Ahly's history," Gomaa said. "He has the ability to achieve the ambitions of our fans."
He added that the board had complete confidence in Ammouta's abilities and would provide him with the support needed to compete for domestic and continental titles.
Gomaa concluded by thanking journalists for attending the press conference and said he understood the importance of the media through his own experience working in the field. He also praised Al Ahly's media department for facilitating coverage of the club.
