Yasser: We are Determined to Defend Our African Title
Al Ahly defender Yasser Ibrahim expressed his happiness after our precious 3-0 win over AS Vita Club on Tuesday at Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa in Matchday 4 of the CAF Champions League group stage.
Yasser Ibrahim was one of Al Ahly’s heroes in the game, forming a formidable defensive partnership with Badr Benoun, which helped the Red Eagles to secure a clean sheet in the game.
Yasser sat with us and shared his thoughts about the build up to the game and the importance of the victory that we achieved.
“We were in a difficult situation before the match and we needed to get the three points. We prepared well for the game and gave a hundred percent to win the match. Thankfully, we took a much-needed three points home.”
“We started our preparation for the game immediately after the match in Cairo, which ended in a 2-2 draw. We were the better side in the game in Cairo. We were unlucky and missed many clear chances to score but this is part of football.”
“Tuesday’s game was played in difficult circumstances as it was held in hot weather, high humidity, and on artificial turf. However, we put on a solid performance and fortunately, we scored three goals from the chances that we had.”
“We are accustomed to these difficult circumstances and we know how to overcome them. We never search for excuses.”
“We held several meetings before the game and we were talking about the importance of achieving the victory to return to Cairo with the three points and that is what we achieved at the end.”
“I train very hard to be always ready when called upon. I respect the coaching staff’s decisions and I only focus on improving my performance to deliver in the games.”
“We promised to keep fighting to secure a spot in the quarter-finals and continue our journey in the competition.”
“We have everything needed to defend our title in the CAF Champions League competition. We take the competition step by step and our attention now will turn to the remaining games in the group stage against Al Merrikh SC in Sudan and Simba SC at home.”
