Al Ahly beat Arab Contractors 3-1 in the 21st round of the Egyptian Premier League on Thursday to keep the pressure on the league leaders.
The victory lifts Al Ahly to 40 points, level with the top three teams.
The Egyptian League title holders, Al Ahly dominated possession from the outset and took the lead through a header by Mahmoud Trezeguet in the 35th minute.
Emam Ashour doubled the lead with a solo effort in the 72nd minute, firing a powerful strike from inside the area.
Substitute Hussein El Shahat added a third in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
Mohamed Salem scored Arab Contractors’ only goal in the 85th minute.
Al Ahly will face Talae El Geish on Monday in the final week of the first round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Under the league’s current format, the top seven teams advance to a mini-league to determine the champions, while the remaining 14 sides enter a separate competition to decide the four relegation places.
