Al Ahly fall 1-0 to Enppi in Egyptian League Cup
Al Ahly opened their Egyptian League Cup campaign with a 1-0 defeat by Enppi on Friday, as the Cairo giants were shorn of several key players.
The Red Eagles were without a number of internationals away on national team duty and struggled to turn possession into goals despite controlling much of the match.
Enppi secured victory with a penalty in the 28th minute, which proved decisive.
Coach Jess Thorup introduced Moroccan defender Achraf Dari and youngster Hamza Abdelkarim, before turning to veteran winger Hussein El Shahat in the second half following his recovery from injury.
Ahmed Reda appeared to have levelled shortly after the restart, but his goal was ruled out for offside.
Al Ahly next face Ceramica Cleopatra in their second Group A match on 19 December.
