Al Ahly’s Afsha says league title race still wide open
Al Ahly midfielder Mohamed Magdy Afsha has played down title talk, insisting the Egyptian Premier League campaign remains a long and competitive journey after the club’s recent winning run.
Afsha expressed his satisfaction with Al Ahly’s 4-2 victory over Ismailia Electricity on Saturday, the team’s final match before the international break, saying the result will ease their return when the league resumes.
The 27-year-old confirmed he has recovered from a calf muscle injury and is now in good physical condition.
He also underlined his focus on training and strict adherence to the coaching staff’s tactical instructions.
“Al Ahly players have pledged to bring joy to the fans and return to winning ways, something we’ve managed with four straight victories,” Afsha said.
He acknowledged the challenges of this season’s title race, pointing to the fierce competition across the league.
“The campaign is still long and requires full concentration and hard work from the players until the end if we want to lift the title and make the fans proud,” he added.
Afsha also confirmed his readiness to join the national team for the upcoming Arab Championship under coach Helmy Tolan, expressing hope of both winning the title and gaining valuable experience.
Saturday’s win at Arab Contractors Stadium moved Al Ahly to 18 points, level with Masry and Zamalek, although both rivals have played one match more.
The result keeps the Cairo giants firmly in the hunt at the top of the table.
