Salah Eldin backs new Al Ahly coach Thorup with vote of confidenceAl Ahly football director Walid Salah Eldin expressed full confidence in newly appointed head coach Jess Thorup, saying the club’s decision to hire the Danish tactician was made after thorough and deliberate consideration.

Speaking at a press conference introducing Thorup to the media, Salah Eldin praised the coach’s credentials and experience across top European leagues.

“Thorup has a strong CV, having worked in competitive leagues such as the German, Belgian and Danish top flights,” he said.

“One of our top priorities was to appoint a coach who has a proven track record of winning titles, significant experience, a strong personality, and tactical flexibility, all of which we found in Jess Thorup.”

Salah Eldin also highlighted Thorup’s familiarity with high-pressure environments and his ability to manage media and fan expectations, key factors that influenced the club’s decision.

“He has extensive experience dealing with supporters and the press, particularly during his time in the Bundesliga,” he added.

The football director called on Al Ahly fans and the media to show patience and support as the new coaching team begins its tenure.

“We ask for patience and backing from the fans. Jess Thorup and his team deserve the opportunity to apply their ideas and philosophy to the squad,” he said.

Salah Eldin also took a moment to thank interim coach Emad El Nahas, who stepped in during a challenging stretch last season.

“A heartfelt thanks to Captain Emad for his commitment and the outstanding job he did under pressure,” he said.

He extended his appreciation to the club’s planning committee, led by Captain Mokhtar Mokhtar and including Captain Zakaria Nassef, sporting director Mohamed Youssef, and contracts director Osama Helal, for their role in the coach selection process.

In addition, Dr. Ziad Mahmoud was appointed to serve as translator for the new coaching staff.

Salah Eldin noted that Mahmoud’s background as a former Al Ahly player, and his experience with Egyptian clubs El Gouna and El Dakhleya, made him well suited for the role.

“Dr. Ziad meets all the standards set by the committee. His football background ensures he can bridge both the language and sporting gaps,” Salah Eldin said.

Concluding the press conference, Salah Eldin voiced his full backing for the new manager.

“We wish Jess Thorup all the best in his journey with Al Ahly. We have complete faith in his ability to fulfil the ambitions of both the club and its supporters.”
