Victory over Aigle Noir is crucial step in CAF Champions League: Al Ahly’s Salah Eldin

Al Ahly football director Walid Salah Eldin described the team’s 1-0 win over Burundi’s Aigle Noir in the first leg of their CAF Champions League Round of 32 tie as a crucial step in their tournament campaign.

He noted that the victory came at a challenging time and under special circumstances.

“I congratulate the players and Al Ahly fans on this well-deserved win, achieved despite the fatigue many players are dealing with after their international commitments,” Salah Eldin said.

“This victory marks a positive start for the new coaching staff and reflects the players’ commitment and desire to deliver positive results from the very first match.”

Salah Eldin also highlighted the importance of winning away from home, giving the team a significant boost ahead of the return leg in Cairo.

“Winning on the road gives us a strong advantage for the second leg, showing the team’s focus, commitment, and the quick chemistry between the coaching staff, led by Jess Thorup, and the players.

This gives us confidence moving forward,” he added.

He thanked the club’s board and the planning committee for their unwavering support, including the provision of a private jet to ease travel fatigue.

He also praised the Egyptian ambassador to Burundi and the embassy staff for their efforts in overcoming any logistical challenges the team faced.

Looking ahead, Salah Eldin acknowledged a busy schedule with league, CAF Champions League, and Egyptian Super Cup fixtures on the horizon.
