
Al Ahly and Petrojet play out 2-2 draw in pre-season friendly
Al Ahly were held to a 2-2 draw by Petrojet in a friendly match at Al Salam Stadium on Sunday as part of their preparations for the 2025/26 Egyptian Premier League season.
Defender Yassin Marei opened the scoring for Al Ahly with a well-placed header from inside the box.
Shortly after, striker Mohamed Sherif doubled the lead with a powerful left-footed strike, giving the Red Eagles a comfortable advantage.
Petrojet pulled one back before halftime, leaving the score 2-1 in Al Ahly’s favor at the break.
The Petroleum side then equalized in the second half from the penalty spot, and the match ended in a 2-2 stalemate.
Head coach José Riveiro fielded a starting lineup including Mohamed El Shenawy; defenders Yassin Marei, Ahmed Ramadan “Beckham,” Mohamed Hany, and Karim Fouad; midfielders Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet,” Hussien El Shahat, and Ahmed Sayed Zizo; and forward Mohamed Sherif.
Earlier on Sunday, the remainder of Al Ahly’s squad secured a 1-0 win over Egypt’s U20 national team in another friendly, as Riveiro sought to evaluate his full roster ahead of the new season.
The 2025/26 Egyptian Premier League season officially kicks off on Friday, 8 August, with Al Ahly scheduled to begin their campaign against Modern Sport on Saturday, 9 August.
