Al Ahly overpower Kitara FC to march into CAF Confederation Cup group stage
Al Ahly booked their place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage after cruising to a 4-0 victory over Uganda’s Kitara FC in the second leg of the Round of 32 at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, securing a 6-1 aggregate win.
The Red Eagles had claimed a 2-1 victory in the first leg at Hoima Stadium in Uganda last week.
Al Ahly dominated possession from the outset, creating several clear-cut chances that could have further increased their winning margin.
Winger Hussein El Shahat missed a golden opportunity in the 20th minute when his close-range volley sailed over the crossbar.
El Shahat made amends in the 37th minute, opening the scoring with a superb strike from outside the box that beat Kitara’s goalkeeper and found the back of the net.
Mohamed Magdy Afsha doubled Al Ahly’s lead in the 44th minute, finishing off a well-placed pass from Taher Mohamed Taher inside the penalty area.
Al Ahly continued to dominate possession after the restart, with El-Shahat striking again in the 51st minute to complete his brace.
The winger produced a solo effort on the edge of the box before unleashing a powerful shot into the net.
Taher Mohamed Taher rounded off the scoring in the 68th minute to seal a comprehensive victory for the Red Eagles.
Al Ahly will now await the group-stage draw, scheduled for 28 October, to discover their opponents in the next phase of the competition.
