Al Ahly SC board honors African champions women’s volleyball team
Al Ahly SC’s board of directors, chaired by Captain Mahmoud El Khatib, honored the club’s women’s volleyball team and their technical, administrative, and medical staff on Tuesday following a historic season in which they claimed five titles - the League, Super Cup, Super League, Egypt Cup, and African Championship - and secured the club’s first-ever qualification for the FIVB Volleyball Club World Championship.
The ceremony was attended by board members Mohamed El Ghazawy, Tarek Kandil, Mohamed El Garhy, Hazem Helal, Ibrahim El-Amry, and Rowaida Hesham, along with Dr. Saad Shalaby, the club’s executive director, Khaled El Awady, director general of sports activity, Eng. Yasser Qamar, president of the Egyptian Volleyball Federation, and Hassan Abed, the federation’s executive director.
A documentary chronicling the team’s journey across all competitions during the season was screened, followed by commemorative photos. El Khatib praised the players for their achievements, noting that they had won every tournament they entered, and lauded the technical staff for their dedication and guidance.
“This is a proud and unforgettable moment for this generation,” El Khatib said, adding that while the accomplishments are historic, the real challenge is to continue winning titles and preparing for future competitions.
He also thanked the Egyptian Volleyball Federation for selecting Al Ahly to host the African Championship, which he said was conducted in a manner befitting Egypt’s reputation.
Eng. Yasser Qamar commended Al Ahly for its role in organizing the tournament and thanked El Khatib and board member Mohamed El Ghazawy, who chaired the organizing committee, for ensuring the championship was a success.
Qamar highlighted Al Ahly’s track record in hosting major tournaments and noted that the current generation of players achieved a historic milestone by winning the African title and qualifying for the Club World Championship for the first time.
He concluded by praising the team’s performance, saying Al Ahly’s success positively reflects on the national team as it prepares for upcoming competitions.
