Al Ahly's women’s basketball team began their 29th Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) campaign with a commanding 91-62 victory over Côte d’Ivoire’s Friends Basketball Association on Friday.
The match took place at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Hall at Al Ahly SC’s headquarters in Gezira, as the club hosts the prestigious tournament from 5 to 15 December, 2025.
Al Ahly dominated the game from the outset, leading 48-32 at halftime.
They continued their strong performance in the second half to secure the win with a final score of 91-62.
The Red Eagles will next face Rwanda’s REG BBC in the second round of the group stage on Sunday at 19:30 (Cairo local time, GMT+2), at the same venue.
In the group stage draw, Al Ahly was placed in Group A alongside Rwanda’s REG BBC, Côte d’Ivoire’s Friends Basketball Association, and Angola’s Sporting Clube Luanda.
