Al Ahly’s women’s basketball team secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 29th Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) after beating Angola’s Sporting Luanda 86-65 on Tuesday, extending their perfect start in the tournament.
The match, played at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Hall, was part of the third round of the group stage. Al Ahly are hosting the tournament from 5 to 15 December.
The victory confirmed Al Ahly as leaders of Group A, having won all three of their group matches against REG BBC of Rwanda and Friends Basketball Association of Côte d’Ivoire.
Al Ahly dominated from the outset, leading 24-12 after the first quarter, extending their advantage to 43-34 by halftime, and maintaining control through the third quarter at 62-50.
